Mitch Mitchell, Executive Director
Born and raised in St. Louis, I moved to Washington In August of 2007, excited to embark on a new journey. The thought of novel opportunities, learning about different cultures, and experiencing a world of yet unknown adventures helped ease the transition. Fourteen years later, I’m happily married and blessed with one son. Originally starting my career at O’Reilly Auto Parts, I quickly discovered that my passions were calling me in an entirely different direction. In 2018 I started a nonprofit organization called “Just Dads.” The mission was formed after a couple of meetings over wings and beer with a few men from the Tacoma area. We agreed that men should have a place to gather with their kids and be open, vulnerable and free to express their struggles or needs. My desire to positively impact the community of Pierce County also led me to take a position in workforce development. I am currently the Outreach Specialist at WorkSource targeting 16 -24 year olds seeking employment, education, and resources.
My first love has always been music and I grew up playing drums in my grandfather’s church. Today, you can find me in my free time practicing my instruments, jamming with friends, or performing for a crowd. And of course, I still play every Sunday at my church. When not behind a drum set or a steel pan, I’m out golfing with my son or finding random pizza spots and new bars with my beautiful wife.
About Just Dads
Just Dads is a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging and building a community of fathers by providing safe, collaborative spaces, access to resource navigation, and knowledge on creating healthy families with a lasting generational impact. Since the 1970s, studies have shown that a decrease in the presence of fathers in homes is linked to an increase in social issues such as higher incarceration rates, school dropouts, obesity, poverty, and homelessness. Just Dads aims to engage fathers from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from marginalized communities that have experienced a rise in these social challenges over the past few decades. Whether you are a dad, stepdad, new dad, or adoptive dad, join our community and know that you are not alone. We are here to support you and help you succeed!
